Gas leak forces sydney opera house evacuation Updated A powerful hydroelectric turbine is burning in Sydney's central business district, forcing up to 250 people to evacuate their homes, fire and rescue service officials say. Victoria Emergency Response Manager Simon Smith said a large water main at The Bewley Power Station had failed and that "a large, significant amount of water" had leaked through the pipe. "This occurred during an on-site, heavy industrial fire which began shortly after 11:00 (1800 GMT) and has now moved to a small residential area between Macdonald Street and the main gas distribution pipes at the Bewley Power Station," he said in a statement. "We ask the public not to approach the area. "All people should remain calm and vigilant in the affected area and remain mindful of your surroundings at all times. "If you have a small child and/or any pets in the area, please call the NSW SPCA on 131 444." Emergency services managed to rescue several people from the house on Monday morning. Mr Smith said two dogs were rescued with "serious injuries", and two others with serious eye injuries, while an older woman had to be taken to hospital by ambulance. One man was taken to hospital with injuries to his back and legs and "serious and persistent chest problems". The Power Station has been closed for a day while work crews removed the affected steam pipe. A gas leak that had been previously discovered by emergency services at the same site last November damaged a gas supply line and a large portion of electricity supply to a nearby community. Residents in the vicinity have been advised to take emergency measures for the next several days. Health minister john hill speaks about the need to protect child protection and foster carers when speaking to news on BBC Radio 4's Today programme An emergency meeting of the Children's Executive was held at Kensington Palace to discuss the need for the government to provide foster carers with the necessary professional training to ensure they are able to care for vulnerable children and young people in their care. The prime minister said he had asked the Home Secretary Theresa May to set out the Government's commitment to establish new adult social care training in this area by the end of this year. The minister said the new adult training would be offered to all social care workers from May 2017 and would be funded through a funding agreement between the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLC) and the private sector. In his opening speech, Mr Hill told those gathered he had listened to calls from a number of children's charities urging him not to introduce the scheme and that he was "not quite there yet but I am there". He said: "We will not just protect the vulnerable from violence and abuse but also from the dangers of being without a home for their family. "It is our duty to help ensure that young people do not feel they will not be supported to a better home if they are abused or neglected. "It is the government's determination to protect the lives of thousands of vulnerable children across the country, yet they must also protect the lives of those parents who have failed their children. "We must ensure that we can work with vulnerable parents, carers and friends and, crucially, our local authorities and carers who are part of a family system so we can ensure that children do not have to choose between a safe and secure new home or one that may not be safe at all." He said they would need "real" training and not merely the "soft stuff" in order to achieve that goal and he recognised that it was not possible to implement all of the plans in the plan outlined in 2014. He said the government had set out a plan for the future and that in coming weeks he expected ministers to work closely with the children's commissioners who are currently in talks to form a council that will tackle the issues surrounding the safeguarding of children in foster care. 온카지노 우리카지노 온라인카지노 카지노 바카라사이트 Minister accused of misleading public about drug policy: 'The Minister lied on the matter to this inquiry' The chair of the Department of Public Works and Government Services, Peter Wilson, has been suspended and placed on leave by Prime Minister Tony Abbott. The news comes after it was revealed in March that a government report found that Mr Wilson, whose department supplied thousands of drug users' and shoplifters' cannabis oil and cannabis-based "drugs" to those who were arrested, over-prescribed their products. Mr Wilson had also allegedly misled the inquiry by claiming there was no increase in the number of cannabis users arrested for drug offences in the previous year, although the number had actually risen. The investigation was halted after the NSW Police Minister Anthony Simms took to Facebook last week to announce a criminal charge against Mr Wilson. A spokesman for Mr Wilson said Mr Simms would not pursue charges against the MP for breaching his duties. "The government has suspended the ministerial role for one week to allow an inquiry into whether he has contravened departmental policy and rules in relation to the supply of recreational and medicinal cannabis," the spokesman said. "As is commonly the case, there will be public consultation on the matter. The MP for Monash will stand by his statement of concern. He was not aware of this incident when he addressed the public." Mr Wilson is the deputy minister responsible for the department which supplied the cannabis products and has taken over a number of roles, including the newly formed Legal Services Commissioner. 'It is a slap in the face' The MP's sacking is also notable given it followed the appointment of the country's first "cannabis advocate", Tony Burke, last year. The MP said in March that Mr Wilson was "not a good candidate" for the job because of previous convictions. "Tony Burke was supposed to be the voice of the cannabis industry against the government, but he is now the voice of drug policy," Mr Wilson said. "Tony Burke was in the media when the <Justice> Department's report came out last year and he got all the headlines... and he knows the difference between the cannabis industry and the tobacco industry." Mr Burke and Mr Wilson have been embroiled in another legal dispute, over the cost of the former lawyer's contract to represent the Cannabis Control Foundation of Australia (CCFA). Last month, the federal government ordered the legal representative of the CCFA to pay the organization's costs from the federal court. The organization had previously alleged CCFA's $16,000 price tag was unreasonable and requested an additional $25,000 to cover that "obvious and serious" damage caused by the lawsuit, which was settled for an undisclose
